MOSCHINO COUTURE S/S 1989 Runway Black Fringe Wrap Coat with Belt

This incredible coat from Franco Moschino’s Spring/Summer 1989 runway collection could have stepped off this year’s spring runway since fringes are back and a major trend! The twin of this eye-catching yet sophisticated design walked the runway that season (see attached video). It is a wearable collectors piece which captures the fun vibe that Moschino has always represented as a brand.

The black coat has sleek and simple lines and that great oversized feel to it that was so prevalent during the 1980s. It slips on, wraps and ties into place to create shape with the original matching belt that is finished off with beautiful tassels. Otherwise no closure, it looks equally great worn open and makes it very versatile. In my opinion the perfect transition piece!

Of course the star of the design is the extensive fine fringe work all around the neckline and hem and under the back’s yoke. It celebrates fringe’s inherent movement and creates a truly unique look!

Fully lined in black silky fabric and wraps and ties to close. High center back slit. Labelled “Moschino Couture! Made in Italy” and tagged a vintage IT 44, D 40, GB 12, USA 10. The coat is meant to be big and oversized so should work on a range of sizes.

This treasure, like several others that are already available in the shop comes direct from a German socialite and fashion collector so has not been on the market prior to this.

Sleeve length: 71 cm – 27.95″ (measured from shoulder seam)
Length: 121 cm – 47.64″ (from neck to hem including fringes)

Measurements are taken flat and then doubled for the bust.
