Horseshoes are trending these days in contemporary jewellery! But equestrian motifs have been seen in jewellery since the Edwardian and Victorian eras. Most Edwardian horseshoe pieces were originally brooches, and here, we’ve converted a platinum brooch into a pendant necklace. The horseshoe is bead set with 43 chunky Old Mine Cut diamonds, in a fashion that creates a pattern of tiny V’s along the edges of the platinum. The horseshoe has a nice weight and solidity to it, as platinum is a heaver metal, and this piece feels luxurious to wear.
What makes this piece so special is the selection of Old Mine Cut diamonds. 43 Old Mine Cuts are on display in this piece making this piece particularly alluring, as Old Mine Cut diamonds are rare to find. They are well-matched and graduated in size, ranging from 1 mm- 2.5 mm each. The diamonds are bright and lively, chunky with high tables, G-J in colour and VS1-SL1 in clarity. There is approximately 1.75 carats of diamonds by formula. The fact that they are all Old Mine Cuts shows that this is a true Edwardian piece.
The necklace weighs 9.35 grammes. The platinum chain measures 16 1/4” long. The horseshoe is 1 1/4” x 1 3/16”.
Circa 1910, with diamonds that are most likely from the Victorian era.
