Some members of the Braun family emigrated to the United States and opened a linen shop in Manhattan, New York City, using the same name. If you are in West Hollywood you will find an E. Braun & Co. there, which has its roots in the Viennese company. In 2004 the company closed its doors in Vienna.
I love the softness and sensuality of this very well-made vintage design! You are entirely covered from neck to hem but the transparency of the silk through the billowing sleeves and upper shoulders hint at the skin underneath and keep the dress from feeling too demure.
The dress is constructed of a gorgeous floral print silk chiffon that is almost weightless and flows and moves beautifully. It is a glorious riot of colour with pink and coral pink mixing with softer shades of both with lovely blossoms that cover the entire piece.
The bodice is made from two layers. There is an inner solid pink tank with tiny straps made from the outer silk chiffon and then the sleeved semitransparent silk chiffon bodice sits over that. Both are attached to the skirt at the waist. Each sleeve is cut long and finished with a lovely flounce created from two layers of chiffon, the floral print one and a solid hot pink one. Each cuff has elastic in it.
The back hooks at the top of the neck leaving an open slit that runs from the neck to the upper end of the hand-set painted metal zip creating a deep keyhole revealing the perfect bit of skin. The waist is seamed for a touch of shape and cinched with the original pink fabric covered leather belt. The skirt flows out under that in two full silk chiffon layers – the floral print one and a solid hot pink one – that top the inner solid pink lining so it moves and swirls wonderfully! It falls to the floor.
Excellent vintage condition. Appears to have been worn very little if at all. There is a small area of staining on the belt’s lining near the hooks, that of course this is not something you would ever see when on. Please have a look at the picture before the label shot.
