A stunning pair of Oak Glastonbury chairs with hand-carved inscription “esperang” meaning WAIT carved into the back, topped with a family Crest of British Armorial Bindings, along with high quality Gothic decoration and pegged joints. These chairs remain in original condition and are of superb quality, solid chairs with lovely patina. C1880
Glastonbury Chair is a nineteenth-century term for an earlier wooden chair, usually of oak, possibly based on a chair made for Richard Whiting the last Abbot of Glastonbury, England. The Glastonbury chair was known to exist since the Early Middle Ages.
