1976 Roberta di Camerino “Gabbiano“ Violet Trompe l’Oeil Print Belted Dress

The dress shows one of the designer’s iconic illusionistic prints with black detailing that give the impression of a fuller skirt in motion. This effect is called trompe l’oeil and means a “visual illusion in art, especially as used to trick the eye into perceiving a painted detail as a three-dimensional object” (Oxford Dictionaries).

The fitted design has an open collar, darts at the bust and long sleeves with buttoned cuffs featuring the iconic gold metal “R” logo buttons. It comes with a matching wide sash and a thin ribbon that allow you to style the dress in many different ways. There are four belt loops in matching fabric that sit slightly below the natural waist.

The dress slips on over the head with no closure and is unlined. Its label reads “Roberta di Camerino Made in Italy”. The dress shows the signature logo “R” imprint on the right sleeve above the cuff and is tagged an Italian vintage size 48. The original paper tag gives detailed information regarding the model’s name, size and price: “Vestito corto (short dress) Gabbiano (model name), (size) 48, 230.000 Lira (price)“.

Unworn and in excellent vintage condition. The Roberta di Camerino’s archive stamp on the inside of the hem does not show through.
