Contemporary Design
According to Italian designer Antonio Aricò, the Dumba Chair is a sort of playful, “wooden pet” and much of its charm comes from it’s disproportionately “big ears”. Its traditional dark wood color, meanwhile, is more earnest, contrasting beautifully with the merriness of the chair’s form.
Aricò debuted the Dumba Chair as part of his Back Home collection in 2012 at Ventura Lambrate during the Salone del Mobile in Milan. His intention was to create pieces with a retro and powerful feel, following his philosophy based on two simple words: work and fun. The collection was thought up, prepared, and nurtured in the south of Italy in a small, traditional atelier with Aricò’s Nonno (grandfather), Saverio Zaminga, a retired carpenter still in love with wood and shapes.
