Judy Hornby multicolor silk print dress featuring a bias cut, double-tiered handkerchief hem, a deep V-neckline, and puffed sleeves. The British-born designer made her way to the United States in 1975 and became known for her evening wear, mostly constructed of silks and chiffons in unusual color combinations and prints, as seen here. This example, from the late 1970s or ’80s, is crafted from a continuous print with a large solid section of mustard-colored silk edged with varied stripes in black, pink, mustard and gray with a floral motif. The striped areas are used cleverly in the design for a nice balance, and the entire dress is adorned with clear, iridescent sequins for a sparkly effect. The puffed sleeves gain structure from some light netting. Underneath, a full ivory lining is attached at bottom to the main print fabric, which has been cut in handkerchief fashion to layer under the main, shorter dress.
