Edwardian 14K Gold Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire, Garnet, Pearl Harem Ring Size 6.5

This beautiful 14k gold Edwardian harem ring contains an array of Rose Cut diamonds, pearls, sapphires, rubies, and green demantoid garnets. The ring consists of five 14k gold bands, held together at the bottom in a half-hoop that connects the bands and makes them easy to wear. What is most alluring about the ring is the stacked effect of the gemstones interspersed in a layered pattern. The stones are bezel set in a tulip bezel, with the exception of the diamonds, which are beadset into the band. The bands and bezels are 14k gold, and the bars containing diamonds have a silver front that adds to the complexity of the design. The silver has an excellent patina that offsets the stones against the silver tarnish.

The first harem rings were worn as wedding bands in Turkey, but gained popularity in the West in the 19th century. They typically have 3-5 connected bands, with a repeating placement of gemstones. Because of their romantic history, this ring would make a great alternative wedding or engagement ring.

The ring contains 24 Rose Cut diamonds, measuring 1mm each. There are 2 rubies (2.5 mm), 4 sapphires (2.25 mm), 3 pearls (2.25 mm) and 4 demantoid garnets (an apple-green coloured stone from Russia, 2.25 mm each).

Circa 1900. The ring is unmarked and tests as 14k gold. The ring weighs 4.87 grammes. The gemstone grid measures 3/4” x 1/2”.
